What You Need

Henley, C. Foundations of Neuroscience. Open Edition. (Free online text. Links to assigned readings will be provided each week).

Students will need access to a laptop or tablet (laptop recommended for exams) and access to reliable internet.

Learning Technologies

We will use Desire 2 Learn (D2L) and Crowdmark for NEU 300.

Desire 2 Learn (D2L)

D2L will be used for all course components, which includes:

  • Distributions of assignments and exams
  • Submission of reflections and weekly assignments
  • Unit checklists
  • Answer videos
  • Informal collaborative chat space with classmates
  • Gradebook
  • Announcements

We will use Microsoft Word documents for assignments. Please make sure to have downloaded the Word version that is a part of the Office 365 suite of apps made available to all MSU students, staff, and faculty. I also recommend saving all documents to your Microsoft OneDrive space to avoid any loss of data due to computer issues.

Crowdmark is a tool for administering and submitting exams. Crowdmark makes providing timely, yet robust and effective feedback (a critical part of this course) easier than using the built-in D2L tools. As mentioned above, assignments and assessments will be shared at Microsoft Word documents through D2L. You will complete them as Word docs, and then save them as a PDF to upload to Crowdmark.

Discord (Optional)

Joining the course Discord server will be optional, but I feel that course management systems like D2L make it challenging to form a learning community in the asynchronous online space. The Discord server will be a place we can have discussions about the class and get to know each other.

Technical Assistance

The first week will be learning how to navigate. I do not expect anyone to be an expert in these technologies! You will learn and succeed in the course!

If you need technical assistance with D2L or Crowdmark at any time during the course or to report a problem, you can:

Discord assistance is not covered by MSU, but if you have questions or issues, let me know, and we will see if we can work through them.
